Wim Wanders is back with an international coproduction that focuses on James (James McAvoy), a Scottish spy under cover and Danny (Alicia Vikander), a bio-mathematician who is part of a deep-sea diving project. On an encounter in a faraway French resort they instantly fall in love with each other. A love that is passionate and true but probably with no future because of their high-risk professions. James is preparing for a deadly mission in Somalia and Danny is about to dive to the bottom of the ocean. Despite of all obstacles of life – James is kidnapped by jihadists and his life is in grave danger, the lovers are desperate to reconnect, to get to know each other better and to have a chance to develop their relationship in a world, torn apart by political games, ecological catastrophes and social insecurity.
James More is a water engineer who is taken hostage in Somalia by Jihadist fighters who suspect that he is a British spy. Danielle ‘Danny’ Flinders is a bio-mathematician working on a deep sea diving project to support her theory of the origin of life on the planet. James and Danny only met a few weeks earlier, in an isolated hotel on the Atlantic coast, where they were both preparing for their dangerous missions. The last thing they had in mind was falling in love, yet that is what’s happening to them: they recognize in each other the love of their lives. Except they’re now worlds apart, unable to reach each other. As Danny descends to the ocean floor, she doesn’t even know if James is still alive.
