Inspired by real events, the film follows the silent resistance of the Austrian farmer Franz Jägerstätter. Together with his beloved wife Fani he is living an idyllic, simple life in the picturesque Austrian countryside. When World War II starts, Franz, being a deeply religious person, becomes a conscientious objector, he don’t want to kill innocent people. More specifically, he refuses to fight for the Nazis although everyone around him tell Franz that he is a trаitor. Supported only by the love of his wife and children, the farmer’s resistance is strong even when he is arrested and sent in prison. An archive of wartime letters is the evidence of the serious conflict between Franz’s family, from one side and the government, church and their fellow-citizens, from another. Sadly, Franz Jägerstätter was executed on 09 August 1943, he couldn’t survive to see the end of the war which morality he questioned.
